Michele Moore on a mission of women’s empowerment
Michele Moore is a wife and mother of five who started a journey in life
coaching in 2019. She is passionate and driven by her experiences and the impact she hopes to make in the lives of others. Michele’s journey is not much different than those who’ve
struggled in life or experienced many different tragic moments and found purpose. Her life’s purpose is to empower others to live their best life and achieve their goals.
D is for Debra
M is for Michele
D: Tell me about your journey in discovering your passion for women’s empowerment.
M: First, Thank you for this opportunity, I am excited to be here today. It’s a long story, but easy to wrap your head around. I grew up here in Virginia. My family had two major life events that are a part of who I am. My sister died from a rare tissue cancer in 2001. During that time, I was very angry and disconnected. I was also a mom with my first son so I had to push through my period of mourning and recognize my responsibility.
D: I express my sympathies towards the death of your sister. Emotionally, how did you pull through especially having a child of your own to take care of?
M: When you go away to college, you don’t have that level of connection with your younger siblings. The passing of our sister brought my other sister and me much closer. Today we see each other almost every day. She has five kids, I have five kids. That connection helped.
Moving forward, the second event happened in 2010. This major life event made me and was the catalyst for me wanting to get into coaching. I started to understand that I needed to care about myself just as much as I was caring about others. My father and my maternal grandfather were both diagnosed with cancer and passed within a month of each other. Then shortly after, in 2011, we started to notice signs in my mom and she was diagnosed with early-onset Dementia. We became a caregiver for her.
In 2019, my coaching journey started after my mother passed away. I started thinking about what could have been done to help any of them. I saw an advertisement about life coaching, how it connects you, how you can break down barriers, and what they need to see about themselves. I started my certification process a month later and here we are today. God needs me in a position to help others.
D: Amazing how your 20-year journey with critical life-changing, and devastating events has led you to the realization to take care of yourself. Also, to help others learn how to work through and gain more insight on how to focus more on health and wellbeing. You got your certification and now run several businesses, can you share more about your business years?
M: In 2019, I got certified and started Positive Advancement, LLC, which is life coaching with a focus on individual and group coaching tackling all the dimensions of wellness. We don’t pick any specific niche and prefer to be well-versed in all of the dimensions of wellness. We do love partnerships and are always looking for businesses that align with our values, mission, and vision. Partnerships that allow us to increase engagement, but also to be in the community.
D: You also have a non-profit organization?
M: That is correct. Our nonprofit started in November of 2023 after heavy thought of how we could do more in the community. It started as a three-day community engagement event which included a walk and run in the Park. Finally, we did a “This is how you can continue the journey” with different vendors who offered services, support, and free resources. Today, we’re an organization looking to enhance the quality of life in our community.

D: Wonderful. I appreciate that you include spiritual wholeness as well. I am glad you approached from that perspective.
M: Spiritual and physical wellness are connected. If your physical health is in a good position then the rest of you can focus on all the other dimensions of wellness.
D: I’ll be sharing that in my words, music, and vision in the women’s empowerment event that you are leading in January 2025. Tell me more about the Stafford community.
M: Sure. Stafford is a very affluent area. On paper, our median family income is around six figures and there is a lot of military. However, there are always layers of existence in every area. Even though we are an affluent area, there’s a lot of suffering, poverty, and homelessness. One of the reasons I went in the nonprofit direction is to create another extension of love, which translates into wellness. There are a lot of support groups. We’re big on education and we want to see our kids succeeding, even surpassing us. Stafford is really big on economic development working with businesses so they can grow, prosper, and find resources and money.
D: You’re certainly helping it in that mindset. People are falling between the gaps and cracks and maybe even have situations that put them there. There is a need for the type of community support that your organization and others are providing. I certainly look forward to coming there and meeting the organizations, and women working with you. What is something you wish someone would have told you before you started?
M: Oh. that’s a very good question. I wish someone would’ve told me more about the process and the best steps to get the funding. Especially for those in the nonprofit sector, it would’ve been helpful to have their input. You need to be successful. We just started and we’ve already manifested the vision out there, but without funds and support it is a hard journey.
D: It’s amazing what you learn and do on your own. You mentioned funding, what are some obstacles you have faced and how have you overcome them?
M: Creating awareness. You want to create awareness about your organization and its vision. It has not been a huge challenge. Just by the name, it’s inspiring enough for people to want to ask questions. We create innovative marketing strategies to keep a focus on our core values and how we can push them forward. Our Facebook page is a space to share our vision, it’s an ever-growing community.

D: How is your organization unique in the wellness space?
M: We’ve tried to be very creative with our programs. We have, “Care to be Healthy”, which is outdoors to engage the community with free giveaways and resources. We do those quarterly for individuals and families.
D: What organizations have helped with your vision? Is there anyone you want to highlight?
M: We have a partnership with the Stafford County Public School system. Recently, I met with the Communications Director. There are several school systems in which we can create an opportunity to enhance our platform with their wellness initiatives. I’ve also met with the head of teacher wellness to introduce our initiatives toward that peer group.
D: Are you looking for volunteers?
M: We are community advocates and lots of people come to support and help us. We are never fully short of volunteers, but always love help.
D: Can you share a story of a woman who was transformed through your work?
M: In my coaching practice we focus on work-life balance with strategies. I had a client who wanted to leave the workforce and focus 100% on business. She was looking to grow her cleaning company and other business ventures. We reviewed her business plan and her timetable. She and her husband came up with an income number they could live with during the transition process. A year later, she was able to leave her six-figure job and now successfully runs her business.
D: I agree. It is about how you define success and not just measure it monetarily. You’re defining success in knowing you are doing God’s work. You’re fulfilling the purpose in his will for your life. What advice would you give a young person looking to get involved in community service and executive, leadership roles?
M: Thank you. I’m an advocate for women being fully engaged in their communities and their impact. Start with small things such as joining community organizations that match your passions. Get in where you fit in and look for the opportunity where you can play a role.

The Commitment to Self, “I DO!” Women’s Empowerment Conference
The women’s conference on January 11, 2025, will be a safe space to share, engage, and hear from people who have gone through similar things with a focus on confidence. We are focusing on women’s issues, we’ll have panel discussions, and Debra Hill with Debra Hill Sings is the Featured Keynote Speaker.
Michele Moore will also speak on stepping into your power. You do not want to miss it! Grab your tickets today and bring a friend!
D: Why was I chosen as your keynote speaker for your January event?
M: When I look for partnerships, we look for people who are in line with our mission and our vision. I always pay special attention to a person’s story, your story is who you are. The story of Debra Hill touched me in a way I don’t think I could express in words. When you look at how people handle adversity, you notice the similarities. Your story touched me in a way that I cried, only because I was really touched and inspired. The way you motivate, talk about your journey and the things you’re doing, even the awards you give out. Inspiring through words, music, and vision. “Love is Accessible”.
D: Oh. my goodness. I’m in tears now. What you have said is truly my purpose and what I’m about. I’m thankfully, grateful and you’ve touched my heart. What is your future vision for your business and nonprofit? Do you have any projects coming up?
M: In our future vision, we want to expand our footprint outwards. We would like to go to Richmond and other surrounding counties. We are seeing a rapid decline of social etiquette and it’s part of our programming and why we wanted to partner with the schools. We’re going to hold a seminar throughout 2025. If you have kids having issues, we can talk to the parents, give flyers, and let them come to these seminars focused on self-awareness and responsible decision-making.
Our women’s conference on January 11 will be a safe space where people can share, engage, and have the opportunity to hear from people who have gone through similar things with a focus on confidence. We are focusing on women’s issues, we’ll have panel discussions, and I will be speaking on stepping into your power. It is part of my book, “Commitment to Self, “I Do!”, which came out last year.
In June of 2025, we have our annual two-day event focused on physical wellness, which is Be Bold. Be Brave. Believe. I also do events at my home. In our local football program, our moms were overwhelmed by the rigorous schedule and traveling. We did a whole mom’s day out. No kids. No husbands. No duties. No responsibilities. Phone off.
D: It has been wonderful learning about you, your journey, your organizations, and the impact you’re making in Stafford, Virginia. How can people reach you?
M: I can be reached at the email mmoore@positiveadvancement.com and on social media https://www.facebook.com/mmoorelife.
D: Is there anything you want to add?
M: We need more platforms to educate and create awareness about women’s issues with networks and resources. We need to start younger. We need programming in our schools for young girls to build their confidence. Having platforms like Debra Hill Sings pushes for engagement and development. It is much much needed. Especially for women.
D: I have two daughters and tried to instill from a very young age that self-confidence is key and also giving and serving the community. They both have grown up and I’m very proud and pleased with the choices they’ve made with those values of mine. Thank you for your time.
M: Thank you for having me.
