Psalms 3:1-8 KJV

LORD, how are they increased that trouble me!

Many are they that rise up against me.

Many there be which say of my soul,

There is no help for him in God.

Selah.

But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me;

My glory, and the lifter up of mine head.

I cried unto the LORD with my voice,

And he heard me out of his holy hill.

Selah.

I laid me down and slept;

I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.

I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people,

That have set themselves against me round about.

Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God:

For thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone;

Thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.

Salvation belongeth unto the LORD:

Thy blessing is upon thy people.

Selah.

“I sought the Lord, and He heard, and He Answered.”

One thing I admire about King David is that he exudes almost every emotion possible. In Psalm chapter three, he describes disdain for the thousands of enemies who surround him, then tells how he cried out to the Lord for help. He goes on to express his confidence in God to save him and give him a sound sleep. In these few verses, David shows bewilderment, fear, trust and peace. If you were to ask David, “How are you today?”, I believe he would tell you truly how he feels. David lets me know that it is not complaining when I express my troubles, that I can do so and be merely stating the facts. However, I always follow those words with a declaration of my faith and trust in God, who delivers me out of them all. This is also shown in 2 Corinthians chapter four, with an example of Paul doing this as well.

We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair. 2 Cor 4:8 KJV

I want a relationship with God where I know I can tell Him anything. I want true intimacy with my Savior, who encourages me to cast all my cares on Him, for He cares for me (1 Peter 5:7 KJV). After Adam sinned, he hid from God, but our awesome God came to find him. What an amazing love.

  • Chapter 3: Absalom replaced David
  • Chapter 4: David came back
  • Chapter 5: Absalom is killed
