You Are Making History: Pass It On

It’s Women’s History Month. As you celebrate women internationally and across the United States who have made significant contributions to the world in so many areas of science, education, and so much more, remember. There are women right now making history in your life. You, right now, are making the history of your life.
The history of you and the woman in your life is so important, and you are making a huge impact on those around you.
Your legacy is worth remembering. Your history is worth remembering.
You Are Making History: Pass It On
One of the best things we ever did in my family was to audiotape my mother telling her life story. I think we just did it, not truly understanding at the time how valuable it would be to share her memories of her life in her own words with us in this way. When my mother died, I was so heartbroken that I found it difficult to even look at pictures of her. The pain and love and deep, overfull longing to have her presence with me was overwhelming.
In time, my brother shared the audiotape of my mother’s voice. At that time, we didn’t take many videos, so we really only had an audio recording of her. So that I could listen. It was like she was directly in the room, speaking with me. Her memories, her voice, her inflection, her [something] lifted me out of the pit of depression. We are celebrating Women’s History Month, and if there is a woman in your life who holds your love—or if you are a woman who wants to leave a memory with others of you and your time together—I encourage you in some way to do so through video, audio, or just written down. So that your history will go on and on and not be lost to time. So that there will be something that others like me can turn to, remember you, and bring back your love into their life.
The saying goes, “We love people not for what they do for us, but for how they make us feel.” That feeling will continue on and on in this way.
