No Secrets

Psalm 10:1-18 (KJV)

Stephen King himself has never described a most wicked villain as David does in Psalm 10. I literally cringed in fear as I read verse after verse, the evil characteristics of the wicked being unveiled before my eyes. In his pride and filled with vanity and cursing, the villain persecutes the poor. He murders the innocent and crouches like a lion to ensnare the impoverished.

In his heart, he thinks, “God can not see what he is doing in secret. God has forgotten; he hideth his face. He will never see it.” But David declares that God will break the arm of the wicked. He hears the desires of the humble (Psalms 10:17). He will come to the aid of the poor and the oppressed (Psalm 12:5).

When I was a child, I learned a song which became a gentle reminder that I should be mindful that God is always watching me. He sees everything I do, the good and the bad.

The lyrics were:

“Oh be careful little eyes what you see.

Oh be careful little ears what you hear.

Oh be careful little mouth what you speak.

For the father up above is looking down with tender love,

Oh be careful little eyes what you see.”

I am no longer a child, but the message still rings true. The word says what is done in secret will come to light. The wicked men in Psalms 10 were deceiving themselves into thinking there would be no consequences for their deeds. But God says, “Be not deceived, god is not mocked, whatsoever a man sows that shall he also reap.”

I would love to hear what this Psalm brings to mind for you! Write back to me in a Facebook comment or blog reply.
