Animal Shelter Appreciation Month by Elizabeth Baber

When looking for a new furry friend to join you in your home, a high priority should always be contributing to the humane and healthy care of our world’s animals. This week, I would ask you to consider turning your attention to our local animal shelter to see if your next cuddle companion lies there.
The Richmond SPCA is a wonderful nonprofit, working to find safe, happy, and healthy homes for dozens of pets. You can find aged purebreds alongside 8-week-old tabbys. The SPCA makes sure all animals are safely fixed, fully medically examined, and their behaviors and preferences lovingly recorded to make sure they end up in a good home.
On August 17th, my fiancé and I were honored to bring home someone to hang out with me during the quiet evenings after work. Myrlin, the handsome, silly, clever, and clumsy orange rolled over to ask for belly pets the moment he joined us in the meeting-the-pet room, and hasn’t stopped since. As you look at the great work animal shelters are doing, and perhaps even consider finding YOUR next best friend at one, enjoy some photos of Myrlin ruling the apartment in his own adorable ways.
