This letter was written on Christmas in 2022 to my piano teacher, Sam Lupica.
When I asked you to teach me to play, I did not realize that you would not only teach me technical skills but also enlighten my creative self through improvisation.
Dear Sam,
This Christmas, as I reflect on all God has done for me this year, I am so grateful that we began our lessons in September.
When I asked you to teach me to play, I did not realize that you would not only teach me technical skills but also enlighten my creative self through improvisation. You listened, watched, and encouraged me to play, without fear of making mistakes.
My knowledge, skills, and confidence increased through your kind and wise methods. Each lesson is playtime! I cannot thank you enough for your generous spirit.
Merry Christmas and overflowing blessings for the new year.
Abundant Love,
Debra
P. S. My husband also thanks you and appreciates all you have done to bring music into our home.

Salvatore Lupica – Teaching Statement
My teaching techniques are strongly heuristic. Their objective is to give the student a deep understanding of key principles of theory, composition, and technique, and a familiarity with repertory. With this understanding, the student can continue to learn and explore on his or her own, in areas that may be of particular interest to him or her. I view my role as one of facilitator in a process of discovery, understanding, and creation.
