Starting Sunday, May 4th, a new series from Debra Hill: Psalms In Your Palm. Tune in every Sunday to read a passage of scripture, hear Debra’s personal thoughts on the reading, and then relate and reflect on the words as you write them into your palm and into your heart.

Read more about what the series will entail.

Psalms In Your Palm

The Book of Psalms is one of the most well-known books of the Old Testament of the Bible. These ancient scriptures are believed to actually be songs. Most of the songs were written by David, whose historical record reveals his amazing rise from a lowly shepherd boy to the hero giant killer warrior, to the nemesis of King Saul, and to his fulfillment of his anointment to become the king of Israel. With life as exciting and complicated as that, it is no wonder that his psalms cover a plethora of emotions. David holds nothing back as he cries out to God to destroy his enemies and protect him from the wicked King Saul. His strong faith and resilient trust in God’s mercy and deliverance are evident as well. Over and over throughout these passages in Psalms, one can find strength and solace in the words of David and others. This series hopes to provide a way for you to do so each day as you read, relate, and reflect on the goodness of God with a Psalm in Your Palm.

As you read the scripture provided, imagine the words literally placed within the palm of your bare hand. I like to imagine the words written along the prominent life line. Putting the Psalms In Your Palm is not meant to be just a smart catchphrase. Many scriptures tell us that God holds us safely in the palm of his hand. Imagining these psalms in your palm reminds you of this holy place of security, peace and rest. As you read these psalms each day, you are giving yourself a brief refuge from the daily cares and pleasures of this world. After you have read the passage and placed the words in your mind and in the palm of your hand, turn your palm towards you and place it on your heart, hiding these words deep in your heart. Jesus said, “My word will be in your heart…”
