In Memory of Nikki Giovanni
As a young black adult female, I was first introduced to the writings of Nikki Giovanni when I combed through the halls of my neighborhood library. I was trying to discover a world of books that would help me understand my personal experiences, the world around me, and my place in it.
Nikki Giovanni’s voice was self-confident and gave me inner strength. Her voice was the voice of social justice. It empowered me to feel I had the power to make change. Her voice was sweet and tender which helped me to see the world with compassionate eyes.
I thank God for Nikki Giovanni and all of the words she has given the world through her many years of advocacy, and speaking truth to power. Even though she is physically gone from Earth, she will eternally be in our hearts.
Rest in Peace, Nikki Giovanni. We love you!
