God Revealed

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.
1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament sheweth his handywork.
2 Day unto day uttereth speech,
And night unto night sheweth knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language,
Where their voice is not heard.
4 Their line is gone out through all the earth,
And their words to the end of the world.
In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,
5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.
6 His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it:
And there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.
7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul:
The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart:
The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever:
The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold:
Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned:
And in keeping of them there is great reward.
12 Who can understand his errors?
Cleanse thou me from secret faults .
13 Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins ;
Let them not have dominion over me:
Then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.
14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight,
O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
God Revealed
In Psalm 19, David tells us that we need only to look to the splendor of nature, in the earth and skies, to come to know God. He speaks to all of mankind through His creation and by understanding how they are designed, we can come to understand God’s righteous laws. The one thing we all have in common around the world is that we all look up into the same sky, day and night. There is no speech or language where the voice of God is not heard (19:3). He speaks to all of us as we behold and study the sun, moon, stars, galaxies and so much more. Through God’s creations, some truths or physical laws have been discovered as irrefutable. But even stranger is the fact that there is still so much more we do not know. We see through a glass darkly (1 Cor. 13:12). God is beyond human comprehension. How marvelous and mysterious! David waxes poetic as he describes the sun as an expectant bridegroom, coming out and rising to greet his bride. Or like a runner, who moves at a steady course across the sky from rise to set. The circuitry found in the skies is designed by a perfect hand. This same unfailing perfection is shown in God’s plan of righteousness for man. His statutes, judgments and commandments lead us, when followed, to live under His marvelous plan which He meant for us before the foundations of the world.
Our first knowledge of God or of the supernatural begins with our observations of nature. God can seem as far off as the planets and as near as the petals of a rose. This sensory knowledge of His power leads us to search for greater understanding. We have made amazing scientific discoveries for the betterment of all mankind as we continuously research the earth and the heavens. The nature and wisdom of God are embedded in His holy and precious word. From beginning to end, it declares His plan of righteousness for man through His son, Jesus Christ. In the beginning was the word and the word was God and the word was with God and the word dwelt among us (John 1:1). I pray that the glorious image of God continues to be revealed in me through speaking His word, and keeping His meditations in my heart (19:14).

Elizabeth Expands
So often, our modern society draws a line between science and religion, deeming them separate and even unreconcilable. However, as David described to us in this Psalm, the nature of God is REVEALED in the study of His creation, NOT contradicted. I invite you to read to Dr. Deborah Haarsma as she addresses this conflict and how she bridges being a faithful Christian with her career in the sciences.
