ACBVA Salutes New Art Showcase

Come enjoy Art Beyond Limits, an exhibit featuring artistic creations by blind and low-vision artisans. Running from July 11th through August 3rd, this unique show is at the Petersburg Area Art League, 7 E. Old Street, Petersburg, VA 23803.
The photographs of ACBVA member Lamont Crawley are a part of the works on display.


On Saturday, July 12th, internationally acclaimed blind artist John Bramblitt led a painting workshop. ACBVA board member, Debra Hill, enjoyed learning to paint, focusing on the senses of touch, smell and hearing.



John Bramblitt
John Bramblitt’s art has been sold in over one hundred and twenty countries and he has appeared internationally in print, TV and radio. He has appeared on CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, ABC, NBC, FOX, Discovery Channel and BBC Radio and TV and he’s been featured in The New York Times and Psychology Today. He’s the subject of the award-winning documentary shorts “Line of Sight” and “Bramblitt.” His work has received much recognition, including the ‘Most Inspirational Video of 2008′ from YouTube and three Presidential Service Awards for his innovative art workshops. And John is blind.
Mr. Bramblitt is also the author of the award-winning book, Shouting in the Dark.
Debra Hill also interviewed Mary Bullock, the creator of this important art initiative, highlighting the artistic abilities of blind and low vision painters, photographers and other artisans.

Mary Bullock has empowered thousands of individuals to live well with vision loss throughout her career in occupational therapy. Mary treats each person with patience, kindness, and confidence in their ability to succeed. Whether it’s teaching someone how to use a magnifier or assisting with smartphone accessibility, Mary makes sure that each individual’s unique needs are met.
Outside of work, Mary enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, shopping for antiques, and visiting coffee shops.








Debra Hill
Debra Hill is an independent inspirational singer, author, songwriter, and writer. As a blind performer, she adds a personal story of God’s faithfulness. Her life exemplifies that Christ’s power will work to lift all regardless of circumstances.
