The Lucky Penny
At the age of accountability, she awoke to find a penny in her palm. This must be my lucky day, she thought, smiling at the shiny coin. She put the penny in her pocket and carried it with her from morning to night. At breakfast, when her mother gave her French toast with butter and maple syrup, she rubbed her lucky penny. When her teacher announced the test was postponed until next week, she sighed with relief and whispered to the penny, “Lucky for me.”
