When I came up with the idea for the song Reflections, I was focusing particularly on the youth of today and their fascination with their social media image. There seems to be a lot of focus in the news on how youth, particularly girls, are being impacted negatively by the comments and views of others online, as well as comparing themselves with the digitized lives of others. The lives that people reflect on social media are not necessarily true images of their life’s circumstances, but fabricated stories to evoke acceptance, attention, and affirmation of self worth. The lyrics of the song Reflections encourages people to remember that man looks on the outside, but God looks on the inside (1 Samuel 16:7). We focus on outward characteristics to define or enable others but it is truly the character of a person that should be more highly regarded. When we look in the mirror, what characteristics, though unseen by the naked eye, do we reflect?
In the song, I focus on the nine fruits of the spirit: Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. These inner traits far outshine any outward appearance of beauty. So the next time you look in the mirror, let your inner light shine to the world.

Krissa, the young singer of the song Reflections, was a talented member of my praise team. She exuberantly sang her heart out for the Lord and was so excited to go into the studio and lend her voice to this project. I thank her and her family so much for acting in the video for the song. I also thank Ross McInnis, the videographer, who brought the song to life as he coordinated all the shots for the video. As writer and producer of Reflections, it is my honor to share this message of loving what you see when you look in the mirror because you know that your inner beauty is what really matters.
