Psalm 30:1-2 KJV

A Psalm and Song at the dedication of the house of David.

[1] I will extol thee, O LORD; for thou hast lifted me up,

And hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.

[2]  O LORD my God,

I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.

[3] O LORD, thou has brought up my soul from the grave:

Thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

[4] Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his,

And give remembrance of his holiness.

[5] For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life.

Weeping may endure for a night but joy cometh in the morning.

[6] And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved.

[7]  LORD, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong:

Thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled.

[8] I cried to thee, O LORD;

And unto the LORD I made supplication.

[9] What profit is there in my blood,

When I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? Shall it declare thy truth?

[10] Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me:

LORD, be thou my helper.

[11] Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing:

Thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;

[12] To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent.

O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.

Bless This House

Imagine attending the grand opening of the palace of a king. Surrounded by opulence, I would be awestruck by this exquisite environment. The highlight of the evening, of course, would be the kingโ€™s speech. Perhaps he would outline many of his past accomplishments and historic battles which led to his special day. Well, in Psalm 30, titled โ€œa song and dedication of Davidโ€™s palace,โ€ King David invites his guests to sing along with him about the goodness of God. Rather than boast about himself, he lifts up his voice in remembrance and thanks to his Lord. He is dedicating his palace, his kingdom and his reign to the Lord. He says โ€œGod has lifted me upโ€ (30:1). David chants that he has been healed and even been delivered from dying. โ€œThou has kept me alive that I shall not go down into the pitโ€ (30:3).

David knows that the saints also have testimonies of the goodness of God in their lives. He tells them to join him in giving thanks and singing (30:4). Even though we may have sorrows, David reminds us that troubles are temporary and God will bring us to a day of celebration. โ€œWeeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morningโ€ (30:5). David always reasons with God. He says he asked God โ€œWhat good will I be to you if I die?โ€ (30:9) God, as always, answers his pleas and is his helper (30:10). He turns his mourning into dancing (30:11). God does this so we may sing of His glory and give thanks unto Him forever (30:12).

Psalm 30 reminds me that my home is more than just a geographic location, bricks and mortar, and plumbing. My home is dedicated to the Lord. I thank Him for the shelter and safety it provides to me and my family. I love the many family gatherings around the dining room and kitchen tables where we fellowshipped with friends and family. I am grateful that it has been a place of healing of hearts, minds and bodies as we have prayed to God through all circumstances. My home is not a symbol of my economic status. Rather, it reflects the favor and blessings of God. I pray that it remains dedicated to Him to be used for his glory and all who enter sing along with me of the goodness of God.
